Just eight days after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, an NHK program began recording the messages of survivors. The program continues to this day, offering people a place to express their hopes and fears. We follow up with the survivors we've met over the years, and hear from people who were directly involved with the government's reconstruction policies. We examine what "reconstruction" means now, 12 years after the disaster.

Multimedia artist and audiovisual producer Sabiwa works with sounds and visuals from natural and synthetic sources, experimenting to create abstract and complex patterns. In Birth of everything from 無, she invites spectators to drift alongside her. Together, we move through a forgotten land of creatures and objects that have lost their purpose. looking for the light that will help illuminate what we see and feel, Sabiwa’s voice as the guiding path along this sensory journey.

Shan He’s I want 1000 Rabbits also uses a prompt box as a central element. As the text in the box changes, the images in the background change as well. We see constantly changing “happy rabbits,” “vegetables and meat, for hotpot,” “gifts,” “snacks,” “fireworks,” “friends,” “happy friends who are sitting around table, eating hotpot, in the Chinese new year eve.” The film suddenly cuts to black and ends with a curious and striking text: one might be better.
